The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory warning citizens about the growing wave of phishing scams aimed at stealing personal and financial information.
Phishing typically involves fake emails, text messages, phone calls, or websites designed to appear legitimate. These scams attempt to trick users into sharing sensitive details such as passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs), CNIC numbers, and banking information.
PTA urged users to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links, especially those received from unknown senders. The authority emphasized the importance of verifying the source of any communication before taking action and warned against sharing personal information under any circumstances.
The regulator also clarified that PTA will never contact individuals via phone or email to request personal data. Any message claiming to be from PTA and asking for such information should be treated as fraudulent.
Users have been advised to report suspicious links or messages immediately and to help spread awareness among friends and family, particularly those who may be less familiar with online risks.
In a social media post, PTA reinforced that digital safety begins with individual awareness and collective responsibility, encouraging citizens to stay alert and help protect others from falling victim to scams.
