Mobile operator U9 (formerly Ooredoo Myanmar) revealed that it has signed an MoU with TrueMoney Myanmar to enable broader access to digital financial services for individuals and businesses across the country.
Under the strategic partnership MoU, which was signed last Friday, U9 and TrueMoney aim to combine their respective expertise to support small businesses, strengthen local communities, and provide financial solutions that make daily tasks simpler and more reliable.
“This partnership creates an opportunity to make digital services easier to access, offer practical solutions for customers, and help businesses reach a wider audience,” said U9 CEO Caroline Yin Yin Htay in a statement. “When services are accessible, they can improve daily life for individuals and help businesses operate more efficiently.”
Htay added that the initiative reinforces U9’s “Digital Myanmar” vision to make digital services more accessible, user-friendly and meaningful in people’s everyday lives.
Ooredoo Myanmar rebranded itself as U9 in September 2025, around three years after Ooredoo struck a deal valued at US$576 million to sell the operator to Singapore-based Nine Communications as it sought to exit Myanmar amid the ongoing civil war. The transaction was completed in May 2024.
Telenor and Axiata have also sold off their network operations in Myanmar since a military coup ousted Nobel Peace Prize winner and State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi’s government in 2021.
TrueMoney – the digital financial services arm of Thailand’s True Corp – has been operating in Myanmar since 2014.
