Warner Bros. Discovery launches HBO Max in eight new markets

Warner Bros. Discovery has launched HBO Max in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, as well as Italy, Greece, expanding its streaming service to more than 100 countries worldwide and moving the platform closer to a fully global rollout.

In the German-speaking markets, HBO Max is available both via direct subscription and through a range of distribution partners. In Germany and Austria, the service is offered as an add-on via Amazon Prime Video, while Germany also gains access through an exclusive bundle with RTL+ and via waipu.tv. In Switzerland, HBO Max is distributed through Sunrise and Swisscom.

The launch line-up includes high-profile titles such as the Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms from 19 January 2026, the fourth season of Industry and the Max original The Pitt. The platform also debuts Paul Thomas Anderson’s award-winning film One Battle After Another, while German originals Banksters, launching in February, and 4 Blocks Zero later in the year headline Warner Bros. Discovery’s local production slate.

Shortly after launch, HBO Max will stream the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 live across all European territories where the service is available. The optional sports add-on also includes Eurosport coverage of events such as the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and cycling’s Grand Tours, with additional winter sports coverage in Germany and Italy.

Alongside the market launches, Warner Bros. Discovery has signed a new multi-year distribution agreement with Amazon Prime Video covering Germany, Austria and Italy. The deal also renews existing HBO Max distribution partnerships with Prime Video in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium.

Under the agreement, Prime Video customers in the three new markets will be able to subscribe to HBO Max directly within the Prime Video interface, choosing between ad-supported, standard and premium tiers, with the option to add sports coverage. The offering includes HBO and HBO Max originals, Warner Bros. Pictures films and DC titles, as well as local productions from Germany and Italy.

HBO Max is available via all major app stores, on selected smart TVs, smartphones and tablets, games consoles, PCs and online via www.hbomax.com.

In Germany and Austria, the service is offered across three subscription tiers, starting at €5.99 per month for the ad-supported plan and rising to €16.99 for the premium tier, with prices set to increase from January 2027. Pricing varies in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.

Warner Bros. Discovery reported 128 million global streaming subscribers in the third quarter of 2025.
