Kosovo telco IPKO shuts down 3G network

IPKO, the Kosovo subsidiary of Telekom Slovenije, said it has completed the shutdown of its 3G network while expanding its 5G coverage and upgrading its digital infrastructure.

The closure of the 3G network, launched in 2013, allows IPKO to use frequencies more efficiently and redirect network capacity toward 5G services, IPKO said in a press release last week.

In 2025, IPKO activated 5G in 81 base stations and increased the band’s capacity. In addition, 20 new mobile base stations were built.

IPKO also continued to expand its 4G/4G+ network, adding 130 base stations and increasing capacity in select areas for a smooth transition to 5G.

Data from Kosovo's telecommunications authority, ARKEP, show IPKO leads the country's mobile market in terms of users with a 55.08% share.
