Malaysian 5G operator U Mobile revealed that it has enabled scam protection across its entire network in partnership with signalling security, roaming and analytics solutions provider Cellusys.
U Mobile said it deployed Cellusys’ unified signalling, SMS and voice firewall solution at full scale in February 2025. Since then, the solution has successfully blocked over 265 million scam calls and fraudulent SMS attempts at the network level.
According to the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, 73% of Malaysians have reported experiencing scam calls and fraudulent SMS, which is one of the highest in the Southeast Asian region, with criminal groups increasingly targeting households, senior citizens, and vulnerable individuals.
U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen also claims it’s the first operator in Malaysia to deploy a network-level anti-spam solution.
“We will continue to improve our network through technology to better protect customers across voice, messaging and data services,” he said in a statement. “As we expand our next generation 5G network nationwide, security remains a core priority, because trusted connectivity is essential to a resilient Malaysian digital economy.”
