Andorra Telecom has expanded its 5G network across the country, introducing enhanced capacity, faster speeds, and more reliable connectivity to meet growing data demands and improve user experience.
Since June, the operator has been working on preparing the exchanges, reorganizing fibers, and installing new infrastructure, with a view to completing the deployment during the autumn. This expansion does not replace the existing network but adds an additional layer of capacity and performance.
The first activation of this upgrade this year took place in Pal for the arrival of La Vuelta, where it demonstrated high efficiency in handling the large traffic spike generated by events with such high attendance.
Andorra Telecom had already activated this technology, which provided coverage to the National Stadium—a key reinforcement during the inauguration of the Games of the Small States.
All customers with compatible devices can now enjoy the improvements of 5G at 3.5GHz, which offers:
High capacity: traffic capacity is doubled compared to the maximum available on 4G.
Higher speed: data transmission speeds are doubled compared to 4G.
More stable connections and lower latency, ideal for video calls, online gaming, streaming, or remote work.
Better experience in high-traffic areas such as urban centers, shopping zones, ski resort parking lots, and sporting or cultural events.
The 5G network already covers 91% of the population and is installed in 44 locations across the country, including Encamp, Anyós, La Massana, Arinsal, Santa Coloma, Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, Canillo, and Soldeu, among others.
The 2025 deployment plan for Andorra Telecom’s 5G upgrades included expanding the exchanges, updating associated 4G equipment, and continuing to extend the new 5G layer throughout the territory.
With this expansion, Andorra Telecom reinforces its position as a leading technological operator in Europe, offering a standard 5G band that is not yet available in all countries and significantly improving user experience quality.
