Orange, Sagemcom join forces to cut carbon footprint of customer equipment

Orange and Sagemcom announced a strategic partnership to reduce the carbon footprint of Sagemcom equipment supplied to Orange.

This agreement concerns not only the devices already in use by Orange customers, but also all future generations of boxes that may be installed.

It includes concrete actions around three main levers: manufacturing, energy consumption, and circularity.

Orange and Sagemcom, a global leader in connected products and solutions, are strengthening their collaboration by signing a progress plan that sets measurable goals to reduce CO₂eq emissions associated with the products and services supplied to Orange. This plan structures concrete actions across the entire value chain — from design and production to use and end-of-life — to accelerate decarbonization.

The agreement stands out for its comprehensive approach: it prioritizes interventions on the devices already installed at customers’ homes, aiming to activate immediate levers to reduce energy footprint, particularly through performance optimization, software maintenance, and extending equipment lifespan. In the long term, this partnership, which also covers products in development, could extend to future internet boxes.

This partnership reflects the shared culture and commitments of Orange and Sagemcom, two companies aligned in their trajectories toward achieving net-zero carbon by 2040. For Orange, it is crucial to act on Scope 3 emissions, which account for more than 80% of the Group’s GHG emissions, particularly in procurement and the supply chain. This partnership is therefore part of Orange’s broader “Partners to Net Zero Carbon” program, which aims to accelerate environmental transition by co-developing meaningful actions with suppliers to reduce GHG emissions.

Sylvie Babikian, Group Purchasing and Supply Chain Director, Orange

This partnership with Sagemcom demonstrates our commitment to acting quickly and concretely to reduce the carbon footprint of the equipment offered to our customers, mobilizing the entire value chain. Achieving net-zero carbon requires immediate and coordinated action, covering both the installed base and future generations of boxes. We are reducing environmental impact now while preparing for a more efficient and sustainable future.

Ahmed Selmani, CEO of Sagemcom

Orange and Sagemcom share a common culture and vision: to develop products and solutions that integrate innovative and responsible technologies for greater efficiency and lower environmental impact. By combining our strengths and expertise, we transform climate challenges into opportunities for sustainable innovation. In this sense, this partnership illustrates our determination to act concretely to achieve Net Zero by 2040 and our commitment, guided by excellence and trust, to the Orange Group. Together, we are defining an ambitious, realistic, and measurable roadmap for sustainable connectivity.
