Ericsson to strengthen Jazz’s network backbone with microwave technology

Ericsson has signed a strategic microwave frame contract with Veon-owned digital operator Jazz to strengthen and modernise its network backbone across Pakistan. Under the five-year agreement, Jazz will deploy Ericsson’s Mini-Link microwave solutions and services to scale capacity and enhance network resilience.

Ericsson said its microwave portfolio offers flexible, high-capacity, multi-band capabilities with a compact design, enabling diverse frequency combinations and configurations across different environments. The deployment will support Jazz’s current network requirements while preparing its infrastructure for future 4G expansion and a smooth transition to 5G, particularly in both urban centres and underserved rural areas.

Jazz said the initiative aligns with its broader evolution into a “ServiceCo,” enabling nationwide connectivity and the delivery of a wider range of digital services. The upgraded backbone is expected to improve network reliability and performance, supporting use cases across education, healthcare, finance, commerce, and other digital sectors.

Ericsson Pakistan said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to building scalable, resilient, and future-ready networks that contribute to Pakistan’s digital and socio-economic development
