Paratus Botswana said that it has updated its uncapped fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) packages and pricing in response to growing market demand for faster speeds at lower prices with shorter or no contractual commitments.
Paratus said it has dropped its 36-month contracts in favour of a standard 12-month contract, with a 24-month option available for customers who want lower monthly rates.
Existing customers will receive speed upgrades that correspond to the value of their current plans, which Paratus said will ensure alignment between usage patterns and overall service performance.
“The demand for higher internet speeds at home has increased dramatically due to popularity of social media, streaming services and higher definition media. Older packages are now obsolete and frustrating,” said Paratus Botswana MD Shawn Bruwer at a media event announcing the changes. “Anticipating this increase in demand, Paratus invested significantly into our privately owned network to accommodate exponentially more bandwidth for Botswana.”
Paratus Botswana’s FTTH services are currently available in most parts of Gaborone, subject to a feasibility assessment, offering connection speeds up to 320 Mbps.
For areas where fibre still isn’t available, Paratus said it has also adjusted pricing for packages of its SKY-Fi fixed wireless access (FWA) service, which also remains uncapped.
Paratus also said it is preparing to deploy new FWA technologies in the first half of next year to upgrade its SKY-Fi offering to keep pace with FTTH in terms of speeds, which will enable the operator to expand its package offerings for SKY-Fi customers.
