Orange Morocco has opened a new 1.5MW data centre in Casablanca, expanding the operator’s local hosting and cloud capacity as the country pushes ahead with its Maroc Digital 2030 agenda.
The “Orange Tech” facility, built on a 15,000-square-metre site, is positioned to support enterprises and public institutions with high-availability infrastructure for cloud, cybersecurity and emerging AI workloads.
The site meets Uptime Institute standards and includes more than 1,000 solar panels generating around 700kWp, boosting energy efficiency and cutting the carbon footprint of hosted services.
Orange said the launch strengthens its role as a strategic partner for Morocco’s digital transformation, as demand rises for sovereign cloud options and the local processing of mission-critical data.
The facility is designed with redundancy and resilience in mind, offering improved performance and stronger data protection for organisations that require their information to remain within national borders.
The opening comes as Africa continues to face a significant shortfall in data centre capacity, with the continent accounting for less than 2% of global colocation supply in 2023, according to Oxford Business Group.
