Vantage Data Centers buys Yondr’s data centre campus in Johor

DigitalBridge’s Vantage Data Centers announced that it has closed its acquisition of Yondr Group’s 300MW+ hyperscale data centre campus in Johor, Malaysia via a US$1.6 billion equity investment in its APAC platform by an affiliate of GIC, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

The transaction, first announced in September, expands Vantage’s regional platform to 1GW of operational and planned IT capacity across Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The Johor campus, JHB1, in Sedenak Tech Park will be Vantage’s third campus in Malaysia, which will strengthen its ability to serve customers with direct access to other key Asia-Pacific markets, including Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, said Jeremy Deutsch, president of Vantage Data Centers APAC.

“We are bringing one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most advanced hyperscale campuses into our platform, enhancing our ability to deliver sustainable and scalable infrastructure for AI and cloud customers across the region at rapid speed and scale,” he said in a statement.

JHB1 sits on nearly 73 acres and will deliver more than 300MW of IT capacity across three data centres once fully developed. Located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, JHB1 offers strategic connectivity with dark fibre routes and access to regional hubs.

The US$1.6 billion equity investment will also go towards developing Vantage’s data centre platform across Asia-Pacific. Deutsch said the new commitments from anchor investors GIC and ADIA will drive its continued growth and expansion in the region.

DigitalBridge and La Caisse completed their acquisition of Yondr Group in July this year, with Yondr continuing to operate independently under the DigitalBridge umbrella.
