Tunisia unveils National Charter to strengthen child protection in the digital space

Tunisia has launched a National Charter aimed at empowering families and safeguarding children online, marking a major step toward building a safer digital environment across the country.

The initiative, led by the Ministry of Family, Women, Childhood, and the Elderly in partnership with the Ministry of Telecommunication Technology, brings together telecom operators, ISPs, public media, and key national institutions to coordinate efforts that protect children from cyber risks.

Officials emphasized that the charter aligns with President Qais Saeed’s directives to reinforce family support, enhance digital literacy, and uphold Tunisia’s digital sovereignty. Minister Asmaa Jabri stressed the need to equip parents with tools and guidance to ensure safe, responsible engagement online, while Minister Sufyan Al-Hamisi urged digital stakeholders to take an active role in educating families about online safety.

The launch event featured discussions on parental supervision laws, digital violence, safe digital transformation in schools, and the responsibilities of ISPs. Demonstrations showcased available parental control tools and highlighted the work of digital security ambassadors.

Overall, the National Charter establishes a unified framework to help families navigate digital risks and promote a protective, child-safe online ecosystem.
