Sure by Beyon has started upgrading mobile sites across Jersey as part of preparations for the roll-out of its 5G network next year.
The work forms part of a £48m investment across the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. In Jersey, 18 existing sites are being upgraded during November and December with new equipment supplied by Ericsson.
The company says the upgrades will support the introduction of a 5G standalone network. This version of the technology is designed to offer faster speeds, increased capacity and improved reliability.
Simon Baldwin, Sure’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “This is a milestone moment in our ambition to build the island’s most reliable and high-performing mobile network. 5G will transform how we live and work in Jersey, unlocking new possibilities for families, businesses and the wider community.
“Working with Ericsson, we’re future proofing our network with cutting-edge technology to deliver outstanding speeds, coverage and resilience for our customers. Every site will be upgraded and that process is now underway.”
