A1 Croatia to shut down 3G network in Dubrovnik on October 20

Mobile operator A1 Croatia will switch off its 3G network in the Dubrovnik area on October 20, paving the way for a full transition to faster, more energy-efficient 4G and 5G technologies.

The move is part of a nationwide phase-out of 3G, which will continue throughout 2025 and 2026, aligning with A1 Croatia’s goal of delivering the best possible user experience through modern and sustainable network solutions.

According to the company, 4G and 5G networks offer higher speeds, greater reliability, and improved data transmission stability, while consuming significantly less energy. As part of its sustainability strategy, A1 aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 through smart technology implementation and continuous network modernization.

Users with devices supporting 2G and 3G networks will still be able to make calls and send SMS messages via the 2G network after the 3G shutdown, though mobile internet speeds will be limited by 2G capabilities.

However, customers with 3G-only devices will no longer be able to access mobile internet after the change. A1 encourages users to upgrade to 4G or 5G-compatible devices to continue enjoying fast internet and optimal service quality.

Customers whose devices already support 4G or 5G but are using older SIM cards can replace them free of charge at any A1 retail location. All affected users have been notified of the transition via SMS or letter.

Additional details and FAQs are available on the A1 Croatia website for both private and business users.
