Amazon is preparing to launch its Project Kuiper satellite broadband service in Pakistan by the end of 2026, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey and expanding access to high-speed internet across remote and underserved areas.
The development follows a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and an Amazon delegation, underscoring the growing international confidence in Pakistan’s rapidly evolving digital ecosystem.
Project Kuiper, Amazon’s ambitious Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, will deploy 3,236 satellites globally to provide affordable broadband speeds of up to 400 Mbps. The service aims to bridge connectivity gaps in areas beyond the reach of traditional fiber and mobile networks.
Amazon plans to establish ground infrastructure in Pakistan, including gateway stations and Points of Presence (PoPs), ensuring stable and locally integrated connectivity. The initiative is expected to enhance internet accessibility, boost e-commerce, and stimulate job creation across the country’s tech sector.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister Shaza Fatima hailed Amazon’s entry as a transformative moment for Pakistan’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision:
“This initiative is not just about faster internet – it’s about opportunity. With Project Kuiper, we are taking a concrete step toward digital inclusion so that every citizen, no matter where they live, can connect, learn, and grow.”
Project Kuiper becomes the third major global LEO satellite operator to engage with Pakistan, following SpaceX’s Starlink and OneWeb. Starlink has already completed technical submissions, while OneWeb is in early discussions for gateway testing and commercial collaboration.
The rollout will be guided by the Pakistan Satellite Services Regulatory Policy (PASRP) and the Standard Space Services and Satellite Technologies (SSST) framework, which mandate clearances for landing rights, spectrum allocation, and security vetting by authorities including SUPARCO, FAB, PTA, and the Ministry of Interior.
