CRA and RIPE NCC host IPv6 workshop to strengthen Qatar’s digital infrastructure

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), in collaboration with the Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), has successfully conducted a three-day specialized training workshop on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) to enhance Qatar’s readiness for the next phase of digital transformation.

Held from October 6 to 8, 2025, the workshop aimed to build national capacity in Internet resource management and support a smooth transition to IPv6 — a key enabler for sustainable digital growth and future-proof connectivity.

Participants included representatives from public and private sector entities, telecom service providers, academic institutions, and other ICT stakeholders. The program combined foundational learning with advanced technical training across three days:

Day 1: Introduction to IPv6, its global importance, and strategic deployment planning.

Days 2–3: Advanced configuration, infrastructure setup, network routing, and security best practices, complemented by hands-on exercises to simulate real-world deployment.

This initiative reflects the ongoing partnership between CRA and RIPE NCC to promote a secure, inclusive, and resilient Internet ecosystem in Qatar and the wider region. It also aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and WSIS Action Lines, emphasizing meaningful digital inclusion and capacity building.

Ali Al-Suwaidi, Director of Technical Affairs at CRA, emphasized the national importance of IPv6 deployment:

“As part of Qatar’s national IPv6 strategy, we are committed to collaborating with international partners to equip our professionals with the skills and expertise needed to strengthen the country’s digital backbone. The transition to IPv6 marks a critical milestone in building a robust and future-ready network that supports Qatar’s long-term vision.”

Dr. Chafic Chaya, Regional Manager for Public Policy and Government Affairs (Middle East Region) at RIPE NCC, highlighted the role of partnerships in accelerating transformation:

“This collaboration with CRA exemplifies how national and regional cooperation can fast-track the digital transformation journey while ensuring secure and sustainable connectivity for all.”

The IPv6 initiative reinforces Qatar’s National Vision 2030 goals by advancing technological readiness, supporting innovation, and strengthening the nation’s standing as a regional leader in digital infrastructure and connectivity.
