Tele2 to expand 5G coverage to reach 90% of Estonian population by year-end

Tele2 expands its 5G network by more than half to bring fast and stable mobile data to the majority of Estonian residents.

In addition to cities and larger towns, the company is also targeting highways to ensure reliable internet access while on the move.

Last year, Tele2’s 5G network covered about 70% of Estonia’s population. By the end of this year, nearly 90% of Estonians will have access to faster and more reliable mobile data.

Tele2 is investing in network development across every region of Estonia, building brand new base stations and upgrading existing 4G and 5G sites. Initially, the focus is on densely populated areas and cities, but increasing attention is being directed toward improving coverage along highways and in smaller communities.

Margus Sits, Head of Radio Network Planning

Estonians’ need for fast internet is steadily growing—at home, at work, and on the move. That’s why our goal is to expand 5G coverage evenly across the country, so that high-quality mobile data is accessible and becomes an everyday standard. Over the past year, we’ve placed strong emphasis on covering major highways to ensure a stable connection while traveling. Going forward, we will increasingly extend coverage to sparsely populated areas so that 5G reaches every corner of Estonia. We are also strengthening the network in areas where coverage has been weak, to provide customers with a smooth and reliable connection.
