RTVE’s La 1 UHD will feature as part of a new platform being launched by SES Satellite Ibérica in the next few weeks.
The SES subsidiary is basing the platform on its German operation HD.
At launch Astra HD+ will have 26 high definition channels available, which will be free until early 2026. The offering will include all the Spanish DTT channels and up to 17 international channels broadcast from the 19.2° East neighbourhood.
In addition to the public broadcaster’s Ultra HD offer La 1 UHD, Antena 3, Telecinco, and La 2 are also expected to add new UHD channels at a later date.
Initially, Astra HD+ will be use a PCMCIA card compatible with CI+ satellite receivers and televisions with integrated satellite tuners. SES will later launch its own Astra decoder.
19.2° East has been used in the Spanish market since the early 1990s and remains home to the Movistar+ bundle.
