France’s Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) has agreed an amendment to the Disney+ service agreement originally concluded on December 9, 2021.
The amendment follows agreements earlier this year between Disney and the country’s professional cinema and audiovisual bodies.
In return for a contribution set at 25% of its annual turnover generated in France – compared to 20% for other subscription video-on-demand services – Disney will be able to screen movies 9 months after their theatrical release.
It’s anticipated that over three years €205 million will be invested.
At least 12% of the obligation will be given over to animation and at least 5% for documentaries; 75% of each of these obligations will be devoted to the production of new works.
Arcom says it will carefully monitor compliance with the obligations arising from the newly amended service agreement throughout the term of the agreements.
A review will take place before January 1, 2028.
