Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom to share infrastructure

Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share digital infrastructure, which they say will improve connectivity and accelerate digital transformation in Gabon.

According to a statement from Gabon’s Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation – which facilitated the initiative and witnessed the MoU signing – the agreement establishes a cooperation model to share of digital infrastructure, optimize investment and reduce deployment costs, which in turn will lower service costs for customers.

The ministry also said the agreement between Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa will improve network coverage and digital service quality, as well as strengthen Gabon's competitiveness in the regional digital market and support digital inclusion.

"The objective is twofold: to offer better network availability and limit the anarchic multiplication of pylons that sometimes degrade the visual landscape," Zouheir Jorio, CEO of Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom, was quoted as assaying by news site Gabon Review.

Airtel Gabon CEO Tom Gutjahr added, "We remain competitors, but some realities require collaboration. Sharing telecommunications towers means making digital services more accessible and affordable for all.”
