Edotco scores neutral infrastructure services licence in Sri Lanka

Axiata’s telecoms infrastructure company Edotco announced on Wednesday that its Sri Lankan subsidiary, Edotco Services Lanka, has received the country’s first licence to provide neutral-hosted infrastructure services in Sri Lanka.

The telecoms infrastructure services licence awarded by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) authorises Edotco to provide a comprehensive suite of passive and active infrastructure solutions in the country. That includes tower and pole structures, fibre, indoor network solutions such as IBS and small cells, and other active network components.

While Edotco has been doing business in Sri Lanka since 2015 supplying solutions like smart multipurpose poles equipped with advertising panels, EV charging ports and air-quality monitoring sensors, the new licence enables the company to deepen partnerships with its customers to deliver resilient infrastructure, fast-track 5G deployment, and expand connectivity for businesses and communities, said Edotco Sri Lanka country MD Gayan Koralage.

“With the nation needing over 7,000 additional towers to support 5G ambitions and data usage expected to quadruple by 2028, Edotco is ready to bridge this infrastructure gap,” he said in a statement.

TRCSL’s move to offer telecoms infrastructure services licences follows the recent passage of the Sri Lanka Telecommunications (Amendment) Act, which for the first time introduces a distinct licensing framework for infrastructure providers, formally recognising the critical role of neutral-host tower companies in developing Sri Lanka’s digital ecosystem, said TRCSL’s director general, retired Air Vice Marshal Bandula Herath.

“For too long, our sector has relied on fragmented models that limited the pace and efficiency of network rollout,” he said. “By opening the door to independent, neutral-host infrastructure providers such as Edotco, we are laying the foundation for faster deployment, stronger infrastructure sharing, and greater investment into underserved regions.”
