Zamtel advances 4G and 5G network upgrades to power digital learning

Zamtel reaffirmed its position as a key enabler of digital education in Zambia with its sponsorship of the EdTech & AI Indaba 2025. The event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and educators to explore the future of education in the digital age.

During the Indaba, Zamtel underscored its ongoing investment in digital infrastructure, including a nationwide upgrade of its 4G and 5G network. The company is upgrading 1,200 sites across the country, with 600 expected to be completed by December 2025 and 160 already live. The initiative aims to connect more schools, students, and educators to faster, more reliable digital learning platforms.

In addition to network upgrades, Zamtel is leveraging its mobile money platform, Zamtel Money, to expand access to education by enabling affordable digital payments for e-learning tools, platforms, and services. This is intended to ensure that digital education opportunities remain accessible and inclusive.

The event was attended by Education Minister Hon. Douglas Syakalima and Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati, alongside stakeholders from the education and technology sectors.

Zamtel’s initiatives form part of a broader strategy to create a stronger digital backbone for education and to empower students across Zambia to learn, grow, and thrive in an increasingly digital world.
