TIM reaches 100 municipalities with 5G in São Paulo

TIM reached the milestone of 100 municipalities with 5G coverage in the State of São Paulo, covering 76% of the São Paulo's population, representing approximately 33.4 million people. The advancement in fifth-generation connectivity symbolizes another step in the operator's expansion project for the state, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and digital inclusion. Nationally, the operator has already reached 707 cities with 5G.

With investments in infrastructure and technology, TIM is expected to allocate approximately R$1 billion in resources to the state in 2025 alone, making this the largest investment since the beginning of the network expansion in São Paulo. The funds will be allocated to the installation and modernization of approximately 3,000 new sites, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure expansion, with a direct impact on approximately 10 million users. 5G coverage is expected to reach 200 municipalities in the state by the end of the year.

São Paulo currently has more than 3,965,000 active 5G antennas distributed across urban areas, industrial hubs, and rural regions. This technical performance is crucial to supporting more demanding network applications, such as real-time transmission, industrial Internet of Things (IoT), and critical healthcare applications.

"We are expanding our infrastructure in the state to further enhance our coverage, creating an intelligent infrastructure capable of responding to the growing demand for increasingly demanding digital services. Our focus on São Paulo is strategic, as it is home to the country's largest consumer, industrial, and technological innovation hubs. Investing here means accelerating the digitalization of entire sectors of the economy and improving the daily experience of millions of people," explains Homero Salum, Network Director at TIM Brasil.

The expansion of 5G coverage has been accompanied by a significant shift in the digital behavior of the São Paulo population. Approximately 17% of the operator's customers in the state already use the technology regularly, with growth expected as new compatible devices hit the market and more cities receive the network. The São Paulo capital accounts for 31% of TIM's total 5G traffic in the state, while cities like Votorantim and São Caetano do Sul lead with 32% of 5G traffic.

During seasonal events, such as vacations, consumption increases even more. On the coast of São Paulo, for example, the summer months see significant spikes in 5G network usage, reflecting the seasonal movement of people and increased consumption in tourist regions. Between December 2024 and January 2025, demand increased by approximately 39%, peaking at 185% during New Year's Eve.

Furthermore, average data consumption per customer on the 5G network is 2.1 times higher than on the 4G network, reflecting the intensive use of content such as high-definition videos, live streaming, online gaming, and more. In the capital, São Paulo residents already spend an average of 75% of their time connected to the 5G network.
