SAMENA Council to chair public and private sector knowledge-exchange at ITU's global platforms

Dubai, UAE - October 8, 2015: SAMENA Council, a leading industry association of telecoms operators and service providers, has announced that it will chair ITU's 5th Chief Regulatory Officers' Meeting as well as a key thought-leadership panel during ITU Telecom World 2015, to be held in Budapest, Hungary, next week.

SAMENA Council, which holds chairmanship of the Chief Regulatory Officer's Meeting (CRO) for the years 2015 and 2016, will be represented by its chief executive officer, Bocar BA, who believes "The CRO is a premier globally active private-sector representative forum that can make great contributions toward our industry's efforts in suggesting best practices, addressing a host of major challenges, including the availability of more spectrum resources for telecom operators, and bridging public and private sector perspectives toward fulfilling the common goal of creating more robust, healthier, and sustainable digital economies."

Bocar BA also recognizes the importance of SAMENA Council's chairing a major ITU Telecom World panel discussion, focused on emerging trends in the converged ICT ecosystem, where new users, new services, and new segments are fast becoming a reality. "This panel will bring to the plane public and private sectors' viewpoints from South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and that too from among the world's foremost telecoms and digitally emerging markets. It is important for our industry's well-being that we understand how emerging technology and user trends are impacting our policy-making needs and where innovation or collaboration, or both, are required to keep the business sustainable, especially for the private sector."

Both ITU Telecom World, which begins October 12th, and the CRO, which will take place one day ahead of Telecom World, serve as unique international platforms for bringing influential industry leaders to help drive industry-wide collaboration and cooperation to the next level. During the 4th Meeting of the CRO, chaired by SAMENA Council in Gabon, participants from the ITU-D Sector membership deemed it necessary to take part in the open dialogue. The 5th Meeting will continue the dialogue on achieving the optimal regulatory environment and encouraging public-private partnerships as well as improving regulatory processes.
