Asianet has launched a mobile TV app for the Keralite community living in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, through a tie-up with Dubai-based consumer electronics company Eurostar.
The subscription-based Asianet Mobile TV app allows online video streaming of 22 live Malayalam TV channels and 20 radio channels (broadcast in Malaylam, Hindi and English) on iOS or Android-based tablets and smartphones.
Eurostar is offering a pre-loaded two-month free subscription with its ePad tablet range, available at LuLu hypermarkets in the Gulf. Alternatively, the app can be downloaded from Apple or Google and a six-month subscription package activated for AED279 (just under US$76) via Eurostar.
The channels on offer include: Asianet News, Kairali, People, Jeevan, Mathrubhumi TV, Reporter, Kappa, Rosebowl, JaiHind, Flowers, Sakhi, Janam, Shalom, MediaOne, Amrita, WE, Kaumadi, Safari, ACV and PowerVision.
"Eurostar is pleased to launch the Asianet Mobile TV App and Eurostar Asianet Tablet. Eurostar has always been on the forefront of introducing innovative and latest technologies in the GCC and beyond. We are certain that Malayalam TV Live will be a game changer in its segment. The 3G function on the tablet will enable the customer to access their favourite channel anywhere, any time," said Raju Jethwani, chairman of Eurostar Group.
Asianet's president and chief operating officer, G Sankaranarayana, told Gulf News that the company intends to grow the service to offer 100 channels, along with video-on-demand (VOD) and gaming. Further languages will also be supported in the future, he added.
