Jordan’s AI assistant ‘Siraj’ reaches 100,000 students in its first phase

In a landmark collaboration between the Jordan Ministry of Education and global software platform Replit, the Siraj pilot, an AI-powered learning assistant, has been officially been launched in the Hashemite Kingdom.

The project—developed under the backing of the National Council for Future Technology—is aligned with the vision of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to harness artificial intelligence to advance education and enhance lives through technology.

According to H.E. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education, Siraj provides students and teachers with an interactive learning experience powered by generative AI, offering accurate, curriculum-aligned responses and resources drawn directly from official school textbooks.

The assistant’s Arabic-language interface is designed for ease of use, requiring no technical background and functioning much like a conversational search engine.

Notably, the pilot version of Siraj was developed in less than a month by Amer Abulaila, a member of the National Council for Future Technology. “Building a project of this scale from scratch would have taken months of development,” Abulaila said. “Using Replit enabled us to prototype and deploy the learning assistant in a fraction of the time, effectively transforming vision into reality.”

Early Reach and Next Steps

During the pilot phase, Siraj has already reached more than 100,000 students and teachers, with over 600,000 interactions recorded on the platform. Following completion of the pilot, the Ministry plans to expand the rollout to approximately 1.6 million students and 90,000 teachers in Jordan’s public schools.

Minister Mahafzah emphasized that the tool aims to enhance student performance through self-directed learning and personalized academic support. “This initiative helps reduce the burden on parents and teachers alike while ensuring that every student has access to accurate, interactive, and engaging learning tools,” he said.

Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, commented: “Siraj is a powerful example of what’s possible when governments embrace innovation to empower their people,” adding that “With Replit, anyone can build and publish applications using natural language—no coding experience required.”

For Jordan, a country whose education system has long emphasized quality and accessibility, the introduction of Siraj signals a major step into AI-enabled learning. By embedding generative AI into everyday education across grade levels, the Kingdom is seeking to boost outcomes, reduce teacher/preparation load, and foster greater student independence.
