Morocco launches nationwide digital and AI training program for children under Maroc Digital 2030 strategy

The Moroccan government has officially launched a national digital and artificial intelligence (AI) training program for children, part of the broader Maroc Digital 2030 strategy aimed at shaping a digitally empowered generation and accelerating the country’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy.

The launch ceremony took place at the Youth House of Hassnouna in Tangier, led by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Public Administration Reform, and Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication. The initiative — developed with support from UNESCO and the AI Movement at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) — will initially roll out across 12 cities.

Building Digital Competence for the Next Generation

The program’s main goal is to equip Moroccan children with foundational digital skills and AI literacy. It combines workshops, hands-on modules, and a “train-the-trainer” system to ensure scalability and sustainability.

A first cohort of 65 youth center staff was trained at UM6P in June 2025 to deliver the program nationwide. These trainers will mentor local educators and guide children through learning activities that focus on ethical, safe, and creative technology use.

Minister Seghrouchni emphasized that the initiative’s objective is to transform Morocco from a “consumer of digital” into a producer, by nurturing AI talent from a young age:

“We want to empower our youth to innovate, create, and lead in the digital economy — not just adapt to it.”

Minister Bensaïd added that the program offers a structured, inclusive framework to prepare Moroccan youth for a rapidly changing technological environment:

“The pace of global technological evolution demands that we equip our children early with the knowledge and curiosity to thrive in tomorrow’s world.”

Strategic Alignment with Maroc Digital 2030

The initiative directly supports the objectives of Maroc Digital 2030, Morocco’s national digital transformation roadmap focused on:

Expanding digital inclusion across all regions, including rural areas;

Strengthening AI and data competencies;

Enhancing technology infrastructure; and

Training a new generation of digital professionals by 2030.

By introducing AI and digital learning into youth centers, the government seeks to reduce digital inequalities, promote early technological awareness, and embed digital ethics into the education system.

Toward Nationwide Implementation

Following the initial phase in 12 cities, the program will expand to all youth houses across Morocco, reaching children in diverse communities. The “train-the-trainer” model ensures long-term sustainability, enabling local educators to continue teaching new cohorts without dependence on external trainers.

By prioritizing early exposure to AI concepts and digital tools, the program aims not only to build technical skills but also to foster creativity, inclusion, and equitable access to the digital future envisioned under Maroc Digital 2030.
