As part of its ongoing commitment to driving comprehensive and sustainable digital transformation in Oman, Omantel organized a specialized training workshop in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, focused on artificial intelligence applications designed for people with visual impairments. This initiative formed part of Omantel’s broader community programs aimed at achieving genuine digital inclusivity and ensuring equitable access to technology for all members of society. It was also one of the company’s key contributions to this year’s Khareef Dhofar activities.
The initiative reflected Omantel’s belief that technology is not an end but a means to empower people and expand their horizons. Its true value emerges when it serves those who need it most. People with visual impairments are an integral part of the community, and they deserve equal opportunities to benefit from today’s digital advancements.
The workshop introduced participants to the latest AI-powered tools such as “Aira” and “Seeing AI,” which rely on computer vision and voice technologies to help users perceive their surroundings, read text, and navigate with confidence. Participants received hands-on training on using these tools in their daily lives, from browsing the internet and reading documents to recognizing objects and currencies, as well as interacting with digital services.
The program received strong engagement from attendees, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative and highlighted its importance in breaking down digital barriers, strengthening independence, and enabling them to participate more actively in the digital community.
This initiative is part of Omantel’s broader strategy to integrate smart solutions into community programs by developing tailored initiatives that address the needs of underserved groups, and by creating innovative models that ensure everyone can participate in the digital transformation journey.
Over the years, Omantel has launched numerous technological and social initiatives targeting diverse segments of society, including students, low-income families, and rural communities. These efforts reinforce its pioneering role in using AI not only as a tool for innovation but also as a driver of sustainable development.
Aligned with its strategic vision for comprehensive digital transformation, Omantel reaffirmed its commitment to continue developing similar initiatives targeting different groups, including people with disabilities, senior citizens, and school students in remote areas. The aim is to build an inclusive digital society where all individuals can benefit from modern technologies without barriers.
