HKT, WEC and JLL join forces to launch Hong Kong’s largest IoT-powered PropTech deployment

HKT and Worldwide Executive Limited (WEC), a renowned professional services provider for property managers, are collaborating to deliver Hong Kong’s largest IoT-powered PropTech deployment for JLL, a leading real estate professional services firm.

Under the collaboration, HKT and WEC will install more than 4,000 IoT sensors at over 200 properties managed by JLL across Hong Kong, including Grade A commercial buildings, shopping malls, industrial buildings and residential complexes. The installation has already kicked off and will be completed in 100 buildings by the end of June 2020.

The IoT sensors are being installed in different areas of the buildings to monitor temperature, humidity, air quality, security or water leakage, and data will be captured and visualized in a centralized digital dashboard. JLL will then leverage on the big data analyzed to attain business insights, enabling the company to re-engineer and automate processes to significantly uplift operational efficiency.

Mr. Chung Chi-hung, Head of Property Management at JLL in Hong Kong, said, “As a leading property management service provider, JLL aims at creating value for our clients by addressing their real estate needs. By collaborating with HKT and WEC on IoT deployment, we are able to derive valuable insights for intelligent and connected building management. This empowers our operations to improve occupant experience, optimize cost and make swifter decisions and actions. Next, we are targeting to optimize energy consumption in these buildings in order to drive a more sustainable environment. We look forward to extending this IoT deployment further to other buildings in our portfolio in Hong Kong.”

Mr. Samson Leung, Group CEO of WEC, said, “We have been enabling JLL to better serve its clients and meet their digital needs with the latest technologies. We are excited to collaborate with HKT on this IoT initiative. Some sensors have to be installed under extreme conditions or at sunken areas of buildings such as lift machine rooms, switch rooms, fire sprinkler rooms, pump rooms, rooftops, emergency exits and restrooms. HKT’s professional consultancy and design on IoT deployment as well as system integration experience have added tremendous values to the successful implementation of the project.”

Mr. Tom Chan, Managing Director of Commercial Group, HKT, said, “HKT has been driving digital transformation with IoT and other emerging technologies for different vertical industries. HKT is honored to collaborate with JLL and WEC to bring the intelligence and efficiency of smart building management to the next level. We are glad that our strong know-how in fixed and mobile technologies and our technical expertise have added value in this project, from planning, installation, data visualization, and analytics to workflow design.”Mr. Chan added, “5G is a super enabler of IoT. The ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency and
massive connectivity of 5G enable large scale IoT deployment.

With the launch of 5G service by HKT in April, we truly believe that IoT and other emerging technologies will create new opportunities for services offered in the real estate sector.”
