Vanu to roll out 200 telecom towers for Orange Liberia

US-based Vanu, which describes itself as a global provider of turnkey mobile communications solutions that allow MNOs to serve off-grid markets, is deploying a minimum 200 telecoms towers for Orange Liberia, as part of efforts to extend coverage in rural areas of the country.

The cellco’s general manager, Jean Marius Yao, revealed the news in a recent Twitter post. Over the next two years, Vanu will build at least 200 2G, 3G and 4G towers for Orange Liberia under the service agreement the pair signed in November 2022. Under the agreement, which take the form of a network-as-a-service (NaaS) model, Vanu will also deliver technology upgrades for the MNO. The agreement forms one part of Orange Group’s wider ‘IDEAL’ programme to extend network coverage to 20 million people living in rural areas of Africa through the construction of 5,000 sites in four years. The agreement involves Liberia, Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire. The company has also inked separate agreements with NuRAN Wireless and Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) in Madagascar.
