ECOI issues new frequency authorisations to Siminn, Vodafone and Nova

The Electronic Communications Office of Iceland (ECOI or Fjarskiptastofa) has issued renewed frequency authorisations to Nova, Siminn and Syn (Vodafone).

The companies are allowed the continued use of the 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 3600MHz frequency bands, for a period of 20 years. The new authorisations come with terms and conditions aiming to ensure that high speed mobile networks are accessible by all citizens and on the main roads of the country. Speed and coverage requirements are progressive in the coming years, but the final minimum requirements are that at least 99% of homes and businesses have access to high speed services via mobile networks, and of these, at least 97% must have access to services with a minimum speed of 1Gbps.
