Brazilian ISP Brisanet on course for Q2 5G launch

Brazilian ISP Brisanet said it is still on course to launch commercial 4G/5G services in the second quarter of this year.

The company bagged 5G spectrum at the spectrum auction held by regulator Anatel in November 2021. A stipulation of gaining access to the airwaves was to roll out 5G in municipalities with less than 30,000 inhabitants in the northeast and mid-west of Brazil, where the regional operator has a presence.

In an earnings call, CEO Jose Roberto Nogueira said 4G and 5G networks will be deployed in 40 locations, reported CommsUpdate.

The company said in a statement, there are also plans to continue expanding its fibre optic network with the aim to maintain market share in the northeast of Brazil.

Nogueira said 5G will be deployed in urban locations, and commercialisation will occur in Q2 this year.

The ISP backs itself to become a mobile operator highlighting backbone infrastructure stretching 27,000km and over 60,000km of FTTH cables.
