Azercell increases LTE network coverage, data transfer rates

Azercell, Azerbaijan’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscriptions, has announced that its 4G network now covers 88.9% of the country’s population and 80.2% of territory, following the launch of a large-scale expansion and modernisation project last year which increased the total number of LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) deployed to 3,124. In an overview of its 2022 achievements, the company noted these ongoing network improvement efforts had resulted in a 40% rise in mobile data transmissions, while average download speeds in the capital Baku had risen to 67Mbps. Azercell’s combined networks now provide population coverage of 98.4% (94.6% territory).

The company also reported that it has now deployed more than 100 2G/3G/4G BTS in territories reclaimed by Azerbaijan during the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, enabling it to provide mobile coverage in the districts of Shusha, Agdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Zangilan, Gubadli, Kalbajar and Lachin, and the settlements of Istisu, Hadrut and Sugovushan, as well as in numerous villages and surrounding areas of Khojavend region.
