HSBC and INJAZ UAE partner to build a financially capable generation

HSBC and INJAZ UAE are expanding their global campaign to teach and support young people to be financially capable.

Their JA Building a Financially Capable GenerationTM initiative, now in its fourth year, will equip JA locations around the world to engage young people in group and self-directed learning experiences. HSBC and JA will mobilize volunteers and educators to teach, coach, and mentor young people along their journey to financial capability.

“Problem-solving, critical thinking and interpersonal skills like empathy and collaboration are the skills needed for future workforce. Artificial intelligence, robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing, virtual reality, augmented reality, big data, alternative energy and waste management will shape the skills required in future. BAFCG is a programme that re-programmes our youth’s minds and enforces thinking outside the box to fuel creativity. Over the past cohorts of the programme we have been in the company of monumental ideas that could potentially change the world. That is the goal, is to plant a seed and let it grow without interference but a lot of guidance and support. We at HSBC are so proud of our youth and what they have to offer”. – Moaza Y. Mubarak, Regional Corporate Sustainability MENAT | HSBC Bank Middle East Limited
The JA Building a Financially Capable Generation learning experience is designed for youth ages 12-16. The initiative’s purpose is to increase youth’s knowledge, skills, and experience with money, promote their self-confidence, and build relationships that support financial health and resiliency. It includes a three-part learning approach:

1. An educational foundational session, delivered by educators and volunteers

2. A mobile and web-based app, FinQuest, that features game-based learning to teach smart financial habits

3. A team-based innovation competition, the Global FinCap Challenge

A Participating student from UAE said: “This wonderful program gave an opportunity to build financial capability with in-depth knowledge about the various ways to earn, spend and save money. I have learnt different skills that are extremely useful in life such as leadership skills, presentation skills, financial literacy, app development and time management.”

In addition, support from HSBC is enabling JA Worldwide to offer the FinQuest app as a free educational resource for educators, parents, and youth around the world. Through Minigames and Quests, app users learn to make smart financial decisions and earn, save, and spend wisely. By December, FinQuest will be available to the public on the web and as a mobile app in the Apple App Store and Google Play.

INJAZ UAE CEO, Razan Al Bashiti mentioned: “We are very excited to run this program for the third year in partnership with HSBC, we have witnessed huge impact on students not only obtaining financial literacy skills but also applying these skills into becoming financially capable youth”.
