Play hails network deployment

Polish operator Play hailed its fixed network build-out in 2022 which resulted in the deployment of 10,500 base stations and over six million FTTH connections.

In a statement, Play stated it built 800 new base stations throughout 2022. The company reached 10,000 base stations in June and by December it exceeded 10,500 - focusing its deployment in large cities and locations with low coverage. It pointed to industry benchmarking website SpeedTest which placed the operator’s network in first place for internet speed in December.

In December, Play deployed 153 sites, its largest deployment last year, in the following locations: Krakow, Namysłów, Goleniów, Puławy, Tarnowskie Gory, Radzymin, Wrocław, Ruda Slaska, Opole and Gdynia.

Over 110,000 fibre lines were deployed last year which saw its broadband network expansion in multiple locations across the country.

Play Group CTO Michal Ziolkowski said: “As the largest investor in the telecommunications industry, in 2022 we accelerated our activities to provide customers with the best quality of services and the widest possible access to mobile and fibre-optic internet and TV services.

"Not only did we continue the dynamic development of the mobile network, exceeding 10,500 stations throughout the country, but we also accelerated the development of the fibre network. Our goal is to provide over six million households in Poland with freedom of choice in access to fibre-optic internet and television services”
