SoftBank Corp has announced that it will shut down 3G services on its network on 31 January 2024, and informed affected customers that they will be required to switch to 4G and/or 5G price plans and compatible mobile handsets before that date if they want to continue receiving its services.
The Japanese mobile operator said that the switch-off will allow it to free up spectrum frequencies for faster 4G and 5G services. The decision affects ‘SoftBank’, ‘Y!mobile’ and ‘LINEMO’ brand customers who will be contacted in due course with details on the shutdown as well as information on upgrading.
