Industry watchdog the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has completed its auction of additional frequencies in the 700MHz, 2300MHz, 2600MHz and 3500MHz bands. The regulator sold eleven blocks of spectrum and raised a total of USD187.5 million. The TCRA named the winners as follows: Vodacom Tanzania, Airtel Tanzania, Millicom Tanzania and Viettel Tanzania.
Vodacom purchased one block in each of the 700MHz and 2600MHz bands for USD25.5 million and USD3.3 million, respectively, and two blocks in the 2300MHz range for a total of USD34.4 million. Airtel was awarded two blocks apiece in the 2600MHz (USD39.0 million) and 3500MHz (USD21.1 million) ranges, whilst MIC also secured two blocks of 3500MHz airwaves, paying USD34.0 million for the frequencies. Finally, Viettel paid USD30.2 million for a single block of 2600MHz spectrum.
