Sky announced launch of Sky Stream dishless box

Sky has confirmed the launch date for Sky Stream, the streaming box based on the Sky Glass platform.

In what spells another move away from the dish, Sky Stream works with any TV over Wi-Fi.

Sky Stream incorporates the Sky Glass UI that first made its appearance on the integrated TV set last year. It will be available to buy from October 18 at a cost of £39.95 set-up fee or £20 when taken with an 18-month contract.

Over 120 channels are included, plus on demand and the ability to combine a Sky subscription with one from, say, Netflix or Amazon. Other apps include Apple TV+, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, YouTube, Discovery+ and Peacock.

Stephen van Rooyen, Executive Vice President & CEO, UK & Europe, “Sky’s always reinvented the TV experience and offered the best content – but it’s not always been accessible to everyone. There couldn’t be a better time to launch our latest innovation using the Sky Glass Platform – whether you want to stream House of the Dragon, Gangs of London or Stranger Things, Sky Stream has it all. It’s the most affordable and easiest way to get Sky TV and Netflix together, offering consumers the value they are seeking right now.”

Sky has an established streaming product in NOW, but this is the first one in the UK to near-replicate the satellite offer, and the first in the UK market to take Sky branding.
