Ascenty expands its Latin American presence with second data centre in Chile

Data centre company Ascenty, which has a strong presence in Latin America, has announced the opening of its second facility in Santiago, Chile. This is said to be its largest operation site in the country.

Spanning an area of 21,000 square metres and with 31 MW of total power capacity, this second structure – Chile 2 – is almost triple the size of the first operation site in the country, which we reported on in November 2020 when Ascenty opened Chile 1, its first international unit, featuring 6,000 square metres and total capacity of 11 MW.

The deployment of the new data centre amounts to an outlay of R$500 million (about US$98.1 million) so far, which may reach R$770 million (nearly US$151.1 million) after planned expansions in the structure.

Chile 2 went live with 20% of its data processing centres already occupied by large technology companies. Occupation should reach 40% by the end of the year.

Following in the footsteps of all other Ascenty data centres, the new unit in Chile is also ranked Tier 3 (TR3) and features a tri-bus distribution system that ensures over 48 hours of standalone autonomy to generators. The unit also features a high-performance cooling system operating in lateral technical corridors with redundancy.

Ascenty now has 28 data centres in Brazil, Chile and Mexico – 22 currently operating and six under construction. It is looking to enter other local markets, such as Colombia and Peru.
