Telecom companies invested US$1.63 billion in Brazil

Investments by telecom service providers totaled BRL 8.3 billion (about USD 1.63 billion at the current rate) in the first quarter of 2022, according to a balance released this Monday (15) by Conexis Brasil Digital, a union of telecommunications and connectivity companies.

The amount represented a nominal growth of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2021. However, accounting for inflation rates, the sector recorded a 6.1% drop. Nonetheless, according to Conexis, the segment has been increasing investments over the years.

Conexis Brasil Digital also released the segment’s gross revenue, which totaled BRL 66 billion (about USD 13 billion), a 5.8% expansion compared to the first quarter of 2021. “Updated for inflation, gross revenue for the first three months of 2022 declined 4.3% compared to the same period in 2021,” the union stated.

The most considerable share of revenue came from telephone services and mobile broadband, which accounted for 40% of the total. Fixed broadband represented 28% of revenue in the quarter.
