Felicity IDC, a tier 3, PCI-DSS certified internet data centre (IDC) has recently been launched at the Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Kaliakoir of Gazipur.
The data centre is linked to a redundant fibre-optic network that spans Bangladesh, with over 650 network nodes and is the only freehold, purpose-built, carrier-neutral colocation and internet data centre in the country with more than 100,000 square feet, 5 MW, and 500 racks.
State Minister to the ICT Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak officially inaugurated Felicity IDC on Sunday.

According to Felicity IDC, with the data centre being only 3 to 5 milliseconds away from more than 170 million homogeneous Bangladeshis, it is the most desired home for any CDNs, OTTs, and BFSIs in the world.
Felicity is also linked to top internet exchanges and tier-1 carriers with more than 400 Gbps capacity, ensuring the lowest latency, security, and user convenience.
“By providing data analytics-based solutions, Bangladesh will emerge as more prosperous than the oil-rich nations,” State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said while inaugurating Bangladesh Techosity Limited and Felicity IDC at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Gazipur.
He further expressed his optimism about the role Felicity can play in serving Bangladeshi customers in preserving their data.
Data centres are large-scale computing infrastructures that are primarily used to store data. Data centres can also be used to provide cloud services such as hosting websites. Along with that data centres are used for supporting a variety of applications such as shared computing.

As a result, data centres are touted as a key resource in the IT sector.
There are four tiers of data centre certifications with specific component requirements.
In Bangladesh, there are two national data centres, one of which is tier 3 and the other is tier 4, where all data generated by the Bangladesh Government is stored.
The first National Data Centre (NDC) was inaugurated in 2010 by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under ICT Ministry, and it is certified as a dividend at a centre.
BCC also has a second data centre, which is the world’s 7th largest data centre, according to the project director of the data centre.
However, according to the Uptime Institute, the first NDC is classified as tier 3 (Certification for Design), while the second NDC has tier 4 (Certification for Constructed Facility and Certification for Design Documents).
Along with that, the Bangladesh Army has a Tier 3 certified data centre for their internal use.
According to the state minister, Bangladesh is on its path of transitioning from a labour-intensive economy to a digital economy and the hi-tech parks will be the driving force.
He also said that 50,000 people will be employed in the hi-tech park in the next 10 years.
The government has already made all the arrangements for the youth to help them become entrepreneurs instead of being employed to build a cost-effective, innovative and sustainable 'Smart Bangladesh', he said.
