Wind Hellas to begin 3G shutdown

Greek telco Wind Hellas, part of United Group, is beginning its 3G network shutdown with a pilot in Zakynthos and Corfu on 12 July, Telecompaper reports. The network is due to be closed completely by the end of this year, freeing up spectrum to support 4G and 5G services.

Wind Hellas has been wholly owned by United Group since mid-January 2022. The group plans to combine Wind Hellas with its other Greek operation, fixed line provider Nova, to create a converged operator under the name Nova-Wind.
