Magyar Telekom acquiring Cecoin fiber network

Hungarian telco Magyar Telekom has exercised a call option allowing it to acquire a fiber network from a partner business, Cecoin, covering 110,000 access points in Hungary for a purchase price of HUF6.95 billion (USD18.2 million).

Telekom’s announcement explains that in 2014 it concluded an agreement on the build-out of a fibre network and in 2015 it began a twelve-year lease contract with Cecoin on the use of the network which currently serves 38,000 Magyar Telekom subscribers. The statement added that as a result of this transaction, Telekom will gain further efficiencies by reducing its leasing fee payments. The closing of the transaction remains subject to notification to and acknowledgement by the relevant authorities.
