Telia shuts down a third of 3G base stations

Telia Lietuva has completed the first stage of the deactivation of its 3G network in Lithuania. From the start of the year to the end of May, the company has successfully shut down around a third of its 3,500 3G base stations, with services no longer available for around half of the population.

The 3G spectrum is being refarmed for improving 4G network coverage and capacity. The second phase of the 3G shutdown will start in the autumn and will cover the country’s major cities, with a view to completing the process in the capital Vilnius at the end of the year.
