Neptune Communications has received authorisation from Jamaica’s Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) to launch satellite broadband in the market.
The Jamaica Observer quoted Neptune’s managing director Brian Bennett-Easy as saying: “We received formal final sign-off on 10th May 2022, so we have moved to hit the ground running to roll out our suite of products and services.”
Julian Jordan, founder and CEO of Neptune Communications, added: “We are very happy to be here, we have a great team here, and Jamaica was very obvious in growing our business. As a regional entity you have to come to Jamaica sooner or later.”
Neptune is based in Barbados, and is due to launch services in its home market this year although it has not disclosed the exact timeline. It received a block of 700MHz spectrum in 2021, with which it aims to launch a voice and data offering.
TeleGeography reports that after receiving the spectrum holding in Barbados, Neptune partnered with Parallel Wireless to help it deploy what it claimed would be “the first O-RAN compliant 4G LTE solution in the Caribbean.”
