Brazilian data centre firm Odata has opened its first Mexican data centre to add to its operations in Brazil, Colombia and Chile.
According to the Data Centre Dynamics website, Odata has launched the first 8.4MW phase of its QR01 facility in El Marqués, Querétaro state, a major data centre hub in Mexico, already housing a number of big names. The project, first announced in October 2020, involves an investment of just under US$80 million. Set on a 52,350 square metre plot and spanning some 30,400 square metres, the site will reportedly reach 32MW at full build-out.
A spokesman for Odata said that the company will begin construction of a second 30MW data centre in the area in the future. Querétaro is a small state located about 200 kilometres northwest of Mexico’s capital. According to Querétaro’s Ministry of Economy, there are 141 IT companies in the state and nine operational data centres. The state is expected to be home to over 25 data centres in the medium term.
As well as QR01, Odata operates or is developing three data centres in the Sao Paulo area of Brazil; one in Bogota, Colombia; and, as we reported last year, one in Santiago, Chile. At full build-out, the company will operate more than 150,000 sqm (1.6 million sq ft) of data centre space and almost 100MW of capacity.
It has plans for at least four more data centres in the Latin American region, potentially including Peru as its next target market.
Odata is part of Patria Investments, one of the largest alternative asset management groups in Latin America, with global coverage through a partnership with CyrusOne, a supplier of data centres, which has more than 45 data centres in operation.
