ENACOM grants 2600MHz spectrum boost to Argentinean operators

The board of Argentina’s regulator ENACOM (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones / National Communications Agency) has approved the allocation of additional 2600MHz spectrum to the country’s mobile providers as they seek to augment their LTE coverage.

A statement from the regulator said: “This new assignment, and the subsequent reordering of all assignments, will give providers the possibility of equalising their holdings both in the total amounts and in the amounts assigned in the 2600MHz band … this will promote general efficiency and competition between the different operators, resulting in an improvement in the quality of the 4G service received by users.”

ENACOM noted that in the process of allocating additional spectrum, it will reshuffle operators’ existing 2600MHz holdings to ensure contiguity. According to TeleGeography, the local units of Claro and Movistar each acquired 2×15MHz FDD blocks in this range during auctions held in mid-2017, while Personal obtained a 2×20MHz FDD block as well as an unpaired 20MHz TDD block in the same round of bidding.
