Pakistan’s state operators sign cooperation deal

Pakistan’s state-backed operators are collaborating to develop telecommunications services in the country’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) regions.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and the Special Communication Organisation (SCO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see them share passive infrastructure, with SCO providing backhaul for the fixed wireless access (FWA) services that PTCL will launch via its 3500MHz spectrum.

CommsUpdate reports that the firms will provide each other with the use their fibre infrastructure for backup and redundancy to enable uninterrupted service provision. The operators also plan to cooperate on further access network deployments in other areas of Pakistan, as well as on multi-operator RAN (MORAN) and other ICT services.

SCO DG Major General Muhammad Shahid Siddeeq said: “We are pleased to partner with PTCL for upscaling telecom services in AJK and GB, where SCO has played an instrumental in connecting the masses through high-quality internet and cellular services. Through our efforts, we hope to provide an inclusive and equitable environment that will ensure progress and growth.”
