Ukraine’s third largest mobile network operator Lifecell plans to launch VoLTE services over its 4G network by the end of 2021, reports Interfax-Ukraine. The company’s CEO Ismet Yazici told the newspaper: ‘The main advantages of VoLTE are excellent voice quality, faster connection times and more efficient use of the spectrum. And with the growing subscriber base and more active use of mobile internet, we decided that now is a good time to launch. We are in the final stage of testing and we will launch the service by the end of the year.’
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that mobile market leader Kyivstar claimed Ukraine’s first commercial VoLTE launch In December 2020, while second-largest cellco Vodafone Ukraine previously flagged up plans for deploying an IMS platform to support VoLTE in 2020, although not yet resulting in a commercial launch announcement.
