Indosat Ooredoo 5G commercial rollout reaches Makassar

Indonesian mobile operator Indosat Ooredoo has announced that its ongoing deployment of commercial 5G services has reached Makassar on the island of Sulawesi. The switch-on has been made possible by its tie-up with Huawei, and the cellco says it aims to help revive ‘key economic sectors, specifically in agriculture, trade and tourism’. Indosat Ooredoo has already launched fifth-generation network sections in Solo, Jakarta and Surabaya, and claimed the latest deployment marks the first commercial 5G services in Eastern Indonesia.

‘This technology will open up huge opportunities for the locals to revive the economy across industries at the epicentre of trade in Eastern Indonesia, ranging from agriculture, trade and tourism sectors … With the presence of 5G connectivity, we continue our commitment to power digital transformation to strengthen Indonesia’s economic recovery in this challenging time,’ said Indosat Ooredoo president director and CEO, Ahmad Al-Neama.
